Obituary of Gerald Renner

Gerald W. Renner (79) resident of Carlin Bay, ID died Dec. 16, 2009 at Coeur d' Alene, ID. He was born October 16, 1930 to Floyd and Gertrude (Smith) Renner at Miller, S.D. He moved to Carlin Bay in the mid 1930's. As a young man, he worked for Russell and Pugh Lumber Co. at Springston, ID. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1952 and served in Germany where he drove ambulance and transport. He was discharged in 1953 and returned to Carlin Bay area to work in the woods. He married Betty Watland in 1959. He worked for the Eastside Highway Dist. He also drove school bus for the Kootenai School District for many years. He also operated a pack string for timber cruisers in the Clearwater National Forest. During all this time , he farmed and raised cows at Carlin Bay. His wife died in 1996. He retired in 1999. He enjoyed fishing, elk hunting and making trips into the Clearwater with the Renner clan. He is survived by his daughters Debbie Renner ( Richard Shadley) as well as Wendy Barnes ( Jay Newton ) all of Carlin Bay and Sharon Lamb and her husband Tom of Harrison. Also surviving are brothers Duane and Kenny Renner both of Carlin Bay and sisters Pauline Pankratz of Turner Bay, ID and Carol Sheppard of Arizona. There are five grandchildren and five great grandchildren also surviving. He was preceded in death by son Jimmy Watland, sisters Bev Lefford and Phyllis Briggs and 1 great grandson Elias Barnes. Graveside Services were Monday, Dec. 21, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. At Woodlawn Cemetery with Pastor Gary Foster Officiating . A potluck will follow at the Carlin Bay Comm. Center following services.
