Obituary of Larry Carl Griffin

Larry Carl Griffin (75) resident of St. Maries, died May 25, 2020 at Schneidmiller Hospice House, in Coeur d’ Alene, ID. He was born June 22, 1944 to Carl and Mary (Rogers) Griffin in Moscow, ID. Larry grew up in Moscow, ID and graduated from Moscow High School with the class of 1962. Following graduation, he went to work in the facilities department of the Univ. of Idaho where he worked as a painter. Larry enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1963 and was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. He married Marlene Hites in September of 1965 in Moscow. Larry was discharged in 1966 and returned to Moscow where he again went to work for the University as a journeyman painter. In 1980, he and his wife purchased a cab-over-semi and transported grain from the Palouse to Lewiston, ID. Three years later, Larry went to work for the Idaho Dept. of Transportation and worked with the Highway Crew. In 1990 Larry returned to painting only this time for Washington State Univ. Illness forced him into early retirement in 1995. He and Marlene then moved to Dixie, ID. They later moved to the Parkline area near St. Maries in 2004. Larry’s interests included working and restoring antique cars. He also enjoyed panning for gold and bear hunting. He loved to tinker with just about anything. He had great enjoyment riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Larry is survived by his wife Marlene at their home in St. Maries; daughter Robin Griffin of St. Maries, ID; step-daughter Sharifah Nicholson of Pullman, WA; brother Richard (Carol) Griffin of Cataldo, ID; 1 granddaughter; 1 great-grandson; and his best friend John Dorgan of Seattle, WA. At Larry’s request, no services will be held. The family suggests memorials to either Hopes Haven (Benewah Co Humane Society) 93 Robinson Rd, St. Maries, ID or Hospice of North Idaho 2290 W.
